The following pages list the British number one hit singles in chronological order. Each page is divided into six columns.
From left to right, the columns represent the accumulative number one, date(s) of number one, the artist, the title, the number of weeks spent at number one and finally the nationality of the artist.
If the number of weeks has more than one number then that denotes a record returning to the the top spot again in its current release. Should a record return to number one the following year then that is denoted by the number of weeks set in blue. If a record is re-released in subsequent years and makes the top spot again then it counts as a separate entry.
If the number of weeks at number one is enclosed in brackets then for all or part of that period, the record shared the number one spot.
